What Is Roughcasting?

Roughcasting — dry dash — is a render where small stones or chips are thrown onto a fresh receiver coat, creating a textured, highly durable surface. The finish is ideally suited to Scotland's climate: the texture sheds rainwater, resists cracking and hides minor imperfections that would show on a smooth render.

Signs Your Roughcast Needs Replacing

Render rarely fails overnight. Look for cracking around windows and doors, hollow-sounding (bossed) patches when tapped, green staining or damp patches inside, and chips shedding from the wall. Caught early, repairs may suffice; left too long, water gets behind the render and the only fix is full replacement. We'll always tell you honestly which you need.
